Wander Group can help your community organization make a local eyesore become a contributing property to the community’s revitalization. While groups have recognized the need to spur the private market by reusing vacant buildings, there are challenges to measuring the economic and social potential of a property. If your organization wonders how it might fit into the redevelopment role, let Wander Group facilitate the discussion: the role of developer is one option, however it is not always the most appropriate. Project roles often depend on your organization’s staffing, experience and preferences about risk.

Wander Group’s Tom Litke built community momentum by coordinating a partnership between a local Main Street program and Historic Boston Incorporated in order to complete a feasibility study of a historic property that stood vacant for 35 years. Tom coordinated a focused effort as he facilitated meetings to build neighborhood consensus; acted as liaison between the Transportation Authority, media and the neighborhood; and finally, assisted in the bidding process. The outcome: seven bids received and a developer was chosen that respected the community’s interests.
